Arrest after driver dives into sea following crash

A man who threw himself overboard after crashing a car leaving Dockyard was arrested in the early hours of Friday, police said.

Officers tried to stop the vehicle at 3.20am as it headed out of Dockyard at “a high rate of speed and being driven in a dangerous manner”.

The driver failed to stop, and hit a wall near Pender Road and Freeport Drive.

The 31-year-old man then left the car and jumped into the water, but was detained as he swam back to shore.

The driver was said to have sustained minor injuries, and was attended to at the scene by EMTs. He was then arrested and taken to Hamilton Police Station.
