Residents living near LF Wade International Airport are invited to attend a public meeting tomorrow to learn more about potentially disruptive upgrades to the facility.

Airport operator Skyport is to begin installing a new runway lighting system next week “to enhance the safety and efficiency of airport operations”.

The upgrade involves installing new LED lighting and raising the height of the runway lighting towers.

The initial phase of the construction project is expected to last three months, although additional phases will continue into the autumn. Much of the work, involving vibratory hammering and diesel impact hammering, will take place at night.

A Skyport spokesman said: “Recognising the potential impact on nearby residents, Skyport is committed to implementing strategies to mitigate construction noise.

“These efforts include careful scheduling of construction activities and employing advanced noise reduction techniques.”

The spokesman added that the public meeting “aims to offer a platform for open dialogue, allowing community members to learn more about the project, understand the efforts to minimise noise and disruption, and express any concerns or questions”.

“Skyport seeks to foster a collaborative relationship with the community, ensuring that feedback and concerns are addressed comprehensively,” the spokesman said.

Warren Moulaison, Skyport’s director of facilities and asset management, added: “Our goal is to work closely with our community neighbours throughout this project. We understand the importance of clear communication and are dedicated to transparency. This town hall is a key step in that direction and we encourage residents to attend.”

Tomorrow’s meeting will take place at the Goddard Catering Building Board Room at 16 Kindley Road, starting at 5.30pm.
