Lane closures expected next week

Point Finger Road was briefly reduced to one lane of traffic on Thursday.

The Bermuda Hospitals Board said this occurred “to facilitate a high lift for exterior inspection of the Acute Care Wing” at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.

Personnel were directing traffic at the site and both lanes reopened after 1pm.

Two roads will be reduced to one lane of traffic next week, the Ministry of Public Works said.

The first closure will affect Pitts Bay Road, between Roxdene Lane and Turnstile Lane in Pembroke, so a wall can be demolished.

This work is scheduled to start on February 26 and finish March 1.

The other closure will affect Somerset Road, between Lantana Road and Ledgelets Lane in Sandys, for the removal of vegetation in the area. This will begin on February 29 and is expected to finish on March 3.

Work in both areas will be done between 7am and 6pm, excluding rush hours, and traffic will be managed with stop and go signs. No traffic will be permitted on the closed lanes.

The ministry apologised for any inconvenience the closures may cause and encouraged people to contact structural engineer JM Colmet at 501-3122 with any questions.
