The Causeway at the East End was briefly closed after a three-vehicle collision that left two people with non-life threatening injuries.

Police said a water truck and two cars were involved in the crash at about 11am.

The driver and passenger from one of the cars, said to be a 56-year-old woman and an 81-year-old woman, both from Hamilton Parish, were taken to the hospital by ambulance for treatment.

As of 5pm, it remained unconfirmed whether occupants from the other vehicles had sustained any injuries.

The crash disrupted traffic for about 2½ hours, with the eastbound lane opening to traffic at about 12.35pm and the Causeway fully reopened at 1.30pm.

Police thanked drivers who faced delays for their patience.

The circumstances of the crash are under investigation, and any witnesses were asked to call 211, or use the police community reporting portal online at the earliest opportunity.

• UPDATE: this story has been updated to include the reopening of the Causeway, with details from police on injuries
