Car licences fees to get extra cut

A fee break for drivers has been tabled in the House of Assembly in the Motor Car (Licence Fees Reduction) Amendment Bill 2026.

It will cut the cost of licensing by 10 per cent, on top of a 10 per cent reduction brought by the Government since 2018.

A spokeswoman said: “In practical terms, this means that in 2026, families will be paying between $57 (class A) and $318 (class H) less per year to license their vehicles.”

The legislation was brought by Owen Darrell, the Minister of Tourism, Transport, Culture and Sport, to be debated at the next session of the House.

The Opposition has questioned the logic of the fee relief, with Scott Pearman of the One Bermuda Alliance suggesting it would have been better as a targeted break for low-income vehicle owners rather than across the board.

The spokeswoman said: “Every Bermudian who pays vehicle licence fees deserves to benefit when Government can reduce costs.

“Families across Bermuda are feeling the effects of rising global prices and broad-based relief ensures that working people in every parish feel the difference.”
