Full ferry service resumes

Ferry service to Cavello Bay has resumed (File photograph)

Normal ferry service between Sandys, Southampton and Hamilton has resumed this afternoon, the Department of Marine and Ports said.

The announcement came less than a day after service to Cavello Bay was suspended owing to “several” ferries experiencing mechanical issues.

A spokeswoman said that issues identified with the Resolute and Serenity “are associated with normal operational wear and tear of equipment and components that naturally occurs over time with regular vessel use”.

She added that Marine and Ports continues to closely monitor the vessels’ condition and “are undertaking the necessary maintenance and repair work to ensure the continued safe and reliable operation of the service”.

The spokeswoman said the Serenity returned to service at 4.10pm today, which allowed the blue and green routes to operate as scheduled.
