Ferry service to and from St George’s has been suspended for the day over weather concerns.

However, a spokeswoman for the Department of Marine and Ports Services said the service was expected to resume at 9.30am tomorrow.

As of this morning, the Bermuda Weather Service forecast winds of 29mph to 40mph with gusts potentially reaching 52mph as the remnants of Tropical Storm Oscar passed through the area.

“Today is expected to be rather unsettled with widespread rain, periods of heavy showers, thunder and gusty winds,” the BWS said.

“There is the possibility for gale force winds in the afternoon through to this evening. The latest satellite imagery shows overcast skies blanketing the island.”

The forecast also warned of widespread rain and showers with fair to poor visibility and the chance of isolated squalls.

The BWS said seas inside the reef were expected to reach 2ft to 4ft, while outside the reef waves could reach 7ft to 11ft.

“A small craft warning is in effect through this morning which is then replaced by a gale warning for this afternoon through this evening,” the BWS said today.

“A small craft warning then is in effect for tonight. A thunderstorm advisory is also likely today.”
