Ask to see an Operator’s certificate and establishment licence.Ask to see the autoclave (a heat sterilisation machine used to sterilise all non disposable equipment) and sterilisation equipment. Make sure the artist is wearing disposable gloves and clean outer clothes. The operator must replace disposable gloves after each procedure. Before putting on the sterile gloves, the operator must first wash hands thoroughly. This should be done if the operator touches any object - telephone, money, etc. Ointment, ink, water and other items should not be returned to a universal container after it has been removed for use on a client.Only disposable needles should be used. You can ask the artist to change the needles in front of you. Also, a professional will destroy and dispose of needles in a sharps container. Always ask to see examples of the artist’s finished work. Photos should be available.
