Aquarium seeks top designer
entering the Aquarium's 75th anniversary logo competition.
Bermuda Aquarium, Museum and Zoo (BAMZ) and the Bermuda Zoological Society (BZS) will both celebrate their 75th anniversaries next year and are developing a new logo to commemorate the Aquarium.
And children and adults are invited to submit their designs which should emphasis the fact that over the years the aquarium has developed into a museum and zoo and an education-and-research facility.
It should also manage to reflect Bermuda and work in the full names of `Bermuda Zoological Society' and `Bermuda Aquarium, Museum and Zoo'.
Children to Bermuda College students category can enter the competition and a student entry will be selected as the best in this category, even if the entry does not become the new BAMZ/BZS logo.
The student prize is $500, one-year membership in BZS, Masterworks and Bermuda Society of Arts and recognition in the organisations' newsletters.
If the student entry is selected as the new logo, the winner will get an additional $500, a plaque at BAMZ and the chance to work with a professional artist on their design.
Adults have also been encouraged to submit entries but the amateur or professional artist will only be awarded if an adult's design becomes the logo.
The prize is $1,000, one-year membership to BZS, BAMZ and Bermuda Society of Arts.
They will also be given permanent recognition on a plaque at BAMZ and -- if the artist works for a communications or design firm -- an opportunity to do additional design work, incorporating the logo into other materials.
Representatives from Bank of Butterfield, Butterfield and Vallis, BAMZ, BZS, Friends of the Bermuda Aquarium, Masterworks Foundation and the Bermuda Society of Arts will judge the competition.
To submit entries, designs with completed entry forms should be brought to the Bermuda Zoological Society's `Shorelands' office, across the street from BAMZ.
Entries must be submitted by Friday, November 3, 2000.
Questions can be directed to Susan McGrath Smith at the Bermuda Zoological Society Development Office at 293-4014.
