The Year Nine students -- aged between 13 and 14 years -- were placed at pre-schools, elder-care facilities, St. Brendan's Hospital and the Extended Care Unit at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital from April 28 to 30.

For the three days they worked from 8.30 a.m. to 3.30 p.m. and assisted in a variety of areas including gardening, cooking, feeding residents, organising social activities, assisting teachers, leading playgroups, helping organise sports days, painting and decorating facilities.

BHS assistant director of development Keil Mello said: "The Community Service Experience was a wonderful learning experience for these young students and their help over these three days was greatly appreciated by each agency.

"BHS intends that this will become an annual project for Year Nine students and hopes that these students will continue to volunteer in the Bermudian community for years to come.

"BHS would like to extend its thanks to each agency, without whose effort this rewarding experience could not have been possible.'' Photos by Keil Mello The right touch: Bermuda High School for Girls student Davon Dunkley adds her special touch to a painting job at the hospital.
