CedarBridge Academy will be successful if the students and teachers stay determined and committed.

This was the opinion recently expressed by the leaders of the school's first student government.

President Chanae Burgess and vice-president Akneesha Harris, who were elected last week, said they plan to achieve this goal by encouraging both staff and students to live spiritually.

"The way I look at it, the school will work out if everybody stays on a positive and spiritual level,'' Chanae told The Royal Gazette .

"My main goal as president is to make the students more focused and to broaden their horizons. I would like them to become more motivated and spiritual like I as a role model and my vice-president are.'' She added: "I do this by giving spiritual messages over the PA (public address) system to inspire them to achieve their goals and I am also going to speak with the teachers to encourage and motivate them as well.'' Although specific plans for future events have not yet been confirmed, the vice-president said the student government have outlined some ideas.

"We are going to have a campaign where the student government will sit outside and other students can come by, meet us and give us some suggestions,'' Akneesha explained.

"Other than that we plan on having fund raisers, field activities, house competitions and students of the months awards to recognise students in their accomplishments.

"We have such a big influence on the students so we know we can help to make a difference.

"Chanae and I know the school is going to work out no doubt. We are going to succeed because there's nothing holding us back. All we really need to is stay focussed on our education and stay in tune on a spiritual level.''
