a new competition as part of its Newspapers in Education programme.

The publishing competition has three categories; essay writing, photography and advertising.

Prizes will be awarded to schools submitting winning entries in each of four age groups: P1 -3, P4 - 6, middle school and senior school.

Winning entries will be included in a supplement to be published on April 19 in conjunction with the Ministry of Education's `Education Month' celebrations.

Open to students of all schools and students schooled at home, the competition is designed to encourage young people to express their point of view in words or pictures.

The themes of the essay are literacy and numeracy, and students can interpret the themes creatively in any way they wish. There are three categories for the journalism section; news, features and sports.

Entries for these two sections must reach the offices of The Royal Gazette by 5.00 p.m. March 30, 2001.

Although the entry deadline is the same, the advertising section of the competition is slightly different, as classes will be assigned a particular advertiser who has paid for an ad slot.

Those who wish to enter this section of the competition must contact Lucy Welch at the Ministry of Education (239-3609) or Jennifer Ingham at The Royal Gazette (295-5881) as soon as possible to be assigned an advertiser.

Further details of the competition have been circulated to schools, and can be obtained by contacting Jennifer Ingham at The Royal Gazette .
