JENNIFER CARSON: STUDENT PROFILE
swimming, painting, drawing and doing crafts.
And although she said she believed she was too young to decide what she wanted to do for the rest of her life, the 17-year-old stressed that she knew she wanted to be successful and happy in whatever she decided to do.
"And if I can't be successful, I want to at least be happy,'' she added.
One thing that would make the talented teen happy would be a trip to Europe, she confessed.
"I've never been to Europe, but I feel there would be many interesting places to visit there,'' Jennifer said. "I think I could learn from all the different cultures.'' At school Jennifer is class treasurer, a part of the National Honours Society and the house council which is an organisation of all class leaders who do fund-raisers and organise dances for the school.
She described herself as a shy, determined, compassionate, friendly and sensitive person who aimed to do what she felt was right even if friends did not agree with it.
"By striving to do my personal best in whatever I do, even if it is not what everyone else expects of me, I am able to achieve my goals,'' she explained.
However, the one thing that Jennifer said wished she could change about Bermuda was the indifference some people have toward the Island's natural beauty.
"People don't care much for the beauty of it,'' she said. "What is beautiful about Bermuda is the nature and the scenery and we are destroying this.'' Jennifer added she believed fewer buildings and parking lots should be constructed because they eventually destroyed the Island's beauty.
"If we destroy nature, we destroy tourism because they come here for the natural beauty,'' she explained.
She also said she believed that the main problem between adults and young people in Bermuda was a lack of communication.
"Parents need to talk to their children more,'' Jennifer stressed.
"Youth must realise that they are trying to help us because they can see the problems and they want a better future for us,'' she said, adding that adults also had to realise they could not compare youth of today to when they grew up because "times have totally changed''.
However, Jennifer -- who was brought up as a Catholic -- said her love for Jesus had not changed.
"My parents brought me up with a Catholic background and they taught me about him,'' she explained. "I think he is a great role model.'' Next to Jesus, Jennifer said she considered her parents as good role models because they taught her "the correct morals to follow in life''.
