School for Girls student Jenny Lapsley describes herself.

The 16-year-old prefect previously attended Port Royal Primary School before starting at BHS in Primary Three.

Lapsley, who lives in Smith's Parish, says her favourite subject is history and in her spare time she enjoys swimming, horseback riding, reading and watching television.

The fifth-year senior believes that a lack of respect among young people, crime and drugs are the main problems facing society today.

"They (young people) need to get with it,'' Lapsley says. "There's more to life than stealing and drugs. I think better education and more severe consequences are the solutions.'' Lapsley says that racism is the one thing she would change in Bermuda if she could.

"There's conflict between all the races and if we could solve that the community would be better as a whole,'' she says. Lapsley, who would like to pursue a career in the biological field, says her parents are her role models.

She adds that her father is the one person who has influenced her life the most.

"I find he's always able to give me very sound advice,'' she explains.

Lapsley says her grandfather -- who died before she was born -- is the one person she wishes she could have met.

"I've heard so much about him from my mom,'' she recalls. "He was captain of the British Navy. I think it would be interesting to meet him.'' The outgoing senior says she would advise other young people to value their education, family and friends, "cause those things will last forever''.

Paris is the place Lapsley would visit if given a ticket to visit anywhere in the world because, according to Lapsley, "It's such a cultural city''. Some of her favourites include Italian food, the television show "Friends'' and softball. She says she also likes all types of music, especially alternative music.
