Life could be verse for Clearwater students!

During a three-week period the students studied many themes including friendship, loyalty, love, party-crashing, death, and conflict -- all topics they could relate to as adolescents.

The students studied the old English language as it was presented in most parts of the play, Romeo and Juliet, and translated it to modern day language.

The entire study of the play incorporated speech and poetry writing, art, music, research and speaking.

In addition to producing a Juliet Jingle and Romeo Rap, M3 students created a variety of assignments using facts from the story. These included an invitation to Romeo and Juliet's wedding, a speech to the parents from Prince Escalus reprimanding their behaviour which led to the children's death, an invitation to the Capulet's masked ball, a letter to Romeo from Juliet and vice versa, a poem about the story, an advertisement for the play and research into plants used for medicinal purposes.

"By the end of the three-week period, the students were anxiously awaiting the viewing of the video,'' said M3 teacher Shawnette Somner.

"They watched the original 1968 performance and because they knew the storyline it made the viewing very interesting for them.'' Romeo and his love only got one night, but I'm sure it was to his delight.

He begged to the prince with every breath To try to save his skin from horrible death Well it worked but we had to pack his sack As they say "Hit the road Jack'' After that a lot of people turned up dead As Friar Lawrence turned and fled.
