Easy going, friendly and always ready to help people was how Bermuda High School for Girl's Nichelle (CORRECT SPELLING) Sticca described herself.
The senior-year student, whose favourite subject is history and biology, said she believed the greatest problem facing Bermuda was that the youth lacked of respect for people.
"The respect they have for people is not what it use to be,'' Nichelle said.
"I think that the schools and homes should be closely linked. Parents can't expect schools to raise their kids. And I think there needs to be more youth programmes to cater to their needs and to guide them to look into the future.'' The Warwick native said the one thing she wished she could change about Bermuda was the family life many children grew up in.
"More people need to have tighter families,'' she said. "There should be less divorce and kids should grow up in two-parent homes.'' Nichelle, who plans to pursue a career in public relations or marketing, said she the best advice she could give to other youths was to always try their best.
"Go as far as you can see and when you get there, go a little further,'' she advised. "Put your faith in God and you can get there. Take your time, break it down into small pieces, work at each little piece and you can get there.'' The former Paget Primary and Gilbert Institute student said she gained her positive attitude from her role models, her mother, Joy, and the leader of her Evangelical Youth group Deena Freeson.
If given an airline ticket to visit anywhere in the world, Nichelle said she would visit Italy.
"I've always wanted to go to Italy, my great-grandparents were from Italy,'' she explained. "And I love the food. I would also love to see the architecture and learn about the culture. I love different cultures.'' During her spare time, Nichelle enjoys rollerblading, eating Italian food, playing volley ball and soccer and watching the television show "Touched by an Angel''.
Nichelle is also a prefect at BHS and a member of the Leo Club and choir. She also participates in Paget Evangelical Church's Teen Club.
