Outward Bound teaches youths about teamwork
Outward Bound was started in 1941 in Wales and was brought to Bermuda in the 1970s.
Outward Bound helps to train students to be leaders and to work as a team.
To attain such goals, students are involved in unusual activities. In one activity, 12 students had to stand on a barrel. They helped one another to get on and stay on.
The teenage boys left Paget Island by kayak and camped at the old Police beach. The next morning they headed to Dockyard for abseiling and rock climbing.
They then canoed to Spanish Point, and from that point they walked to Tucker's Town. Their canoes were transported to that spot so that they could then canoe to Castle Island and camp out.
Finally they paddled to St. David's and walked to St. David's Head for another abseiling and climbing adventure.
Camp trainer Grant Tomkins encouraged his students by reminding them that there was nothing to fear except fear itself.
