PDK searching for two good teachers
aspiring young educators on the Island.
The chapter is also looking for two students to take part in an annual summer camp for prospective teachers at the University of Indiana in Bloomington next year.
It follows the success of the first student sent by PDK to the summer school this year, Clesia Realejo, 17, a graduate of the Berkeley Institute who is now at Saltus Grammar.
Ms Realejo gave a talk about her experiences in Indiana at the PDK meeting at Bermuda College last week to discuss future educators.
She hopes to study in Canada next year if she does not win a Rotary Exchange scholarship to travel to Spain. Her ultimate goal is to teach in Bermuda.
Two of the Island's brightest young teachers, Dorinda Nusum and Sheree Jacobs of Spice Valley Middle School, also spoke at the meeting about their experiences in the profession.
Both said the job was rewarding, although it could be stressful and tiring.
And they agreed that the key to successful teaching was to be creative in the classroom.
Anyone interested in the scholarships or in going to the summer camp should contact PDK President Earl Hart, the deputy principal of Spice Valley Middle School, on 238-1770.
