PRIDE members go to meeting

with information on fighting the war against drugs and other ills which plague the community and their peers.

The members of Parent Resource Institute for Drug Education (PRIDE) attended the PRIDE World Drug Conference in Lakeland, Florida.

Past chairman of Youth-to-Youth Kevin Burgess, who is among the group, said participation in the conference was just another way he and the ten other locals attending were playing their part in helping the community.

"We hope to learn more about drug prevention, teen pregnancy, suicide, and other things that effect teens and we will be able to come back and share it with young people in Bermuda,'' he said before leaving the Island last Tuesday.

Kevin, who is no stranger to serving the community, was chosen along with two others -- Sanya Gibbs and Chrislyn Hall -- out of 160 youngsters worldwide to be guides at the conference.

The guides were responsible for monitoring workshops and also served on several panels in the workshops.

In addition to the workshops, the teenagers were set to participate in a talent showcase. Their performance featured a five-minute skit and a six-minute dance.

The youth group, including Yvonne Darrell, Kionne Minors, Thai Pogson, Olatungy Tucker, Janelle Clarke, Tanaya Christopher, Stephanie Outerbridge, Deneye Hinds, Shapir Hinds, Calvert-Lee, and Junelle Burgess, are expected to return home tomorrow.
