Romeo, Oh Romeo
During a three-week period the students studied many themes including friendship, loyalty, love, party-crashing, death, and conflict -- all topics they could relate to as adolescents.
The students studied the old English language as it was presented in most parts of the play, Romeo and Juliet, and translated it to modern day language.
The entire study of the play incorporated speech and poetry writing, art, music, research and speaking.
Dear Juliet, When I saw you the other night for the first time I was in a daze. I didn't know what to say at first. Then I finally came over and said something to you.
When you talked back I thought it was magic. I didn't know if it was for real or not. I felt unworthy to be standing by you or speaking to you. To me, the night was perfect because I was with you. I wish that it could be relived! I just hope you feel the same way about it. I only wish that I could see you again. I remember the night so clear that I could describe everything about you. I am writing this letter to you to tell you how I feel and I have to tell you now I believe in love at first sight if you see what I'm trying to get at.
So this is pretty much how I feel. I know I hardly know you but I miss being with you. Love, Romeo Written by Delyone Borden (M3) Dear Juliet, I miss you so much. How are you? I wish I could be with you right now to see your glowing beauty. Oh, how I wish our families could get along together so we could stay together. They are the only reason we cannot be together -- just because of our names. How I wish we could spend another night together. I'm so happy that we have engaged ourselves together forever. Your eyes are so radiant they could teach the torches how to burn. Nothing can compare to your beauty. If I could touch your hand it would make me fall in love again. if you are hurting from the pain of your dead cousin Tybalt, let me kiss you and all your pain shall disappear. Juliet, some day we would be able to show and express our love to our families to show them how we feel.
Goodbye my love, Romeo Written by Sadae Bean (M3 ) Dear Romeo, Oh, how I crave you to be mine in marriage and for my heart to be set on your silent and loyal face. Forget my parents, for my one true love is you that mine eyes be set upon like a child watching a snowflake for the first time. I will let go of my name and hold onto yours like the most precious stone on earth. Love between us is more than any star, sun or moon will ever know. Till eternity we will pledge to be together forever, no matter if the storm rises, fire burns trees or on snowy grounds. Life will be good and hope will bring happiness. Hatred will blind us no more. Take my heart and love on the next sunset at the doors of the church and I will be yours then.
Yours, Juliet Written by Jana Smith (M3) Dear Juliet, Oh, dear Juliet, I have loved you from when I first set sight on your beautiful face. How your smile just lights my heavy, heavy heart. Oh, Juliet as my lips kissed your face 'tis when I knew you were my destiny. Even though we come from two different families that detest each other and fight senselessly with no mercy, that shall never even bother my deep strong love for you. Your hair is so beautiful, as if it were Gods own. I love the way you talk and the way you put our minor differences behind you. Oh, I cannot wait till the day when I can lay my sight on your glamorous face. Oh, how your face lights up a room far more than any lantern. How your body is made in the perfect shape. It amazes me, my love, that I would be blessed with luck to be able to have one like you even though there is not many like you. Dear Juliet, my love for you is higher than a mountain that touches the sky and that love shall never fall. Sincerely, Your love, Romeo Written by Jason Lowe (M3)
