Students selected for contest
pressure.
Following tryouts held at the school in St. George's four weeks ago, six contestants were selected to take part in a General Jeopardy contest on April 21.
The main objectives of the event were to challenge students academically, to promote public speaking and performance, and to encourage good study skills.
The six contestants -- Steven Caisey, Carlacia Condor, Chris Perinchief, Teshae Trott, Kristen Darrell, and Belaun Foggo -- were only given two weeks to study 120 given questions with responses. And they had to find the answers for 20 of them in order to compete in the "challenger'' rounds. They were also still expected to complete their regular class assignments.
"All of the contestants performed extremely well in front of their peers,'' teacher and organiser Shawnette Somner said. "The competition was very tight toward the end.'' Belaun, from M3, emerged the winner of the game. In second place was Teshae of M2, while Kristen, of M3, and Carlacia, of M1, tied for third place. The M3s celebrated their victory with a grub day in honour of Belaun and a pizza lunch.
"This is the second consecutive year for General Jeopardy,'' Ms Somner said.
"The entire venture, once again, was greatly supported and highly successful.
All contestants are to be congratulated for a job well done.'' Prizes for the contestants were generously donated by the following: Artcetera, Bermuda Creamery, Dimensions Hair and Beauty, Everrich Jewellery, Liberty Theatre, Music World, Phone Plus, Treat, and Toys N Stuff.
"Every child was able to receive a prize thanks to the generosity of local businesses,'' Ms Somner added.
