ERROR RG P4 5.2.1998 A story in yesterday's paper incorrectly stated that Jamaka Gibbons denied importing more than $20,000 worth of cannabis in stereo equipment on March 2.
The drugs were worth more than $41,000.
A story on our Young Observer page last week failed to mention that Donneka Simmons of the Middle School at Sandys also received a certificate recognising her efforts and achievements in the Front Street Mile last week.
The Middle School at Sandys recently paid tribute to a student who captured a first-place win in the Front Street Mile.
Twelve-year-old Shar-dae Whitter became the youngest ever champion in the under-18 girls category last week with a time of 5:54.2 -- six seconds ahead of defending champion Jennifer Young of Warwick Academy.
In honour of Shar-dae's accomplishment, the school held a special assembly in celebration of their up-and-coming star.
Principal Melvyn Bassett said: "This assembly is probably the most inspiration we have had all year.
"We are very proud of Shar-dae and her achievement. She is a role model who has encouraged us all.'' A bulletin board dedicated to Shar-dae's many running awards, medals and certificates as well as a banner announcing her latest victory were posted in honour of the schoolgirl's success.
And both staff and students applauded the young star throughout the day.
The school also praised six other students who qualified to run in the event.
Tiffany Eatherley, Shane Morrisey, Jenny Palmer, Kyle Smith, Joselle Woods-Smith and Shar-dae's younger sister, Shay-la, were presented with certificates commending their efforts and achievements.
In addition, Shar-dae and Shay-la's mother received a certificate highlighting her continued support of her two young children.
As part of the celebration, Shar-dae and her homeroom class had a special pizza feast, and a lunch for the six students who also took part in the race was held this week.
"I am very happy that I won,'' Shar-dae told The Royal Gazette . "I tried to stay with the front pack and then I just took over.
"This is all a big surprise. I never expected all of this, but I feel very thankful and very proud.''
