An opportunity to bond with new friends

Fair winds: Daniel Pell, one of the Bermudian trainees aboard the Jolie Brise, enjoyed the comraderie of life on the open ocean as part of the Tall Ships Atlantic Challenge race this summer.

Sailing to Charleston, South Carolina on Jolie Brise was a brilliant experience that I shall remember for the rest of my life and an opportunity that I would most certainly do again.

The first couple of days we had 10 and 15 foot waves, and I spent most of my time with my head in a bucket.

Shortly after, I managed to find my sea legs and had about three days of perfect sailing.

During my time aboard the Jolie Brise I met new people, tried new things and learnt a lot. Another thing I will not forget is the sea life which I saw while on board. I saw dolphins, squid, flying fish and whales.

But the best part was joining the crew of nine people aboard the Jolie Brise and becoming so close with each member, making some close friends and exploring the Atlantic without boundaries.
