CedarBridge Academy's Chamber Singers to perform in New York City

Perfect harmony: The CBA chamber singers create music under the guidance of their director, Mr. Granville Oldham.

Over the course of three years, the CedarBridge Academy Chamber Singers, under the direction of Mr. Granville Oldham, have become a well-known name throughout the Islands of Bermuda.

Having participated in several local events, ranging from "Spring into the Arts", an annual springtime celebration of the arts in Bermuda, to the celebration of Bermuda's 400th anniversary held at Government House, the CedarBridge Chamber Singers certainly have had exposure to popularity and stardom on a national basis.

Most recently, the Chamber Singers had the opportunity to travel to HSBC Bermuda to sing carols for the staff members and those who were fortunate enough to be making a transaction at the time.

Among the songs performed were Christmas Canon in D major, Angels We Have Heard on High, and Gratias Agimus Tibi from Antonio Vivaldi's Gloria.

For the first time under the direction of Mr. Oldham, the CedarBridge Chamber Singers will be taking part in an international event.

On Monday, March 29th, students from around the world will be participating in the New York Choral Festival at the Alice Tully Hall, at the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts.

For the CedarBridge Chamber Singers, the trip will serve as an opportunity to perform on a global stage at the highest level of professionalism and to have students network with each other outside of the school environment, working towards one common goal.

As one can imagine, a great deal of hard work and determination is necessary to be fully prepared for the trip.

Consequently, over the past few months, the choir, in conjunction with valuable sponsors and members of the CedarBridge family, have been working tirelessly to promote the choir and raise funds for the upcoming trip.

Fund-raisers have included "CedarBridge Academy Chamber Singers present Antonio Vivaldi's Gloria", and "Celebrate Me Home: A CedarBridge Academy Christmas".

On a personal level, I must thank the entire community for their support over the past few years.

In particular, I would like to thank Mrs. Hudson, who is the accompanist for the CedarBridge Singers. With her aid, the choir has been able to produce work at a much faster rate.

In addition, many of the past fund-raisers would not have been so successful had it not been for the Bermuda School of Music and the Bermuda Philharmonic Society, who graciously played for the Vivaldi Concert and the "Celebrate Me Home" Christmas celebration.

Although the choir itself does an impeccable job when performing, it is the people behind the scenes who truly make a difference.

In essence, the Chamber Singers have come a long way from their humble beginnings just three years ago, and as they prepare to perform on an international stage, we salute them and their endeavours.
