Clearwater's winning football season – a review

A winning team: 2008-2009 U13 League and Cup Winners, Clearwater Middle School pose with their coaches and vice-principal at the end of a successful season.

The Clearwater Middle School Under 13 football team had a very successful season this year. We won the league and cup this season. We played the cup final against Dellwood Middle School at the National Stadium. It was a good game.

Our team consisted of Captain Dage Minors, Nakeno Creighton, Charles Marshall, Anthony Smith, John Hunt-Tucker, Jibri Salaam, Ardon Heyliger, Uzziah Bell, Darius Robinson, Nacori Smith, Jordan Saunders, Keyshe Robinson, Jaquil Hill, Kervin Moreno and me, Calon Minors. Our coach was Mr. Neil Paynter. His assistant was Mr. Sergio Wilkinson.

I think for a team who had no training together we did very well, and we went unbeaten.

There were times were we did not agree with each other, but we worked together most of the time.

Our first game was against Saltus Grammar School. We won against them 3-1; the scorers were Daquan and me twice. Next we faced Somersfield Academy, and we won against them 6-0.

Our other scores were 5-2, 3-1, 1-0 and 2-1. We beat Dellwood Middle School 2-0 at the National Stadium to take the Cup.

I think we were so successful because we all like football. We also had a lot of heart and we were not over confident going into our games. Still in every game we were confident and we came out successful. I think our goals for next year would be to take the double again.

We are all moving up, some going to high school, but we will try our best to do our best.

Last but not least, from the football team we would like to say think you to Mr. Paynter and Mr. Wilkinson. Thank you for believing in us and sticking with us when we did not have all of our players and had to do with what we had. We did well at that. So thank you for everything. Thanks also to Dr. Tully for coming to our games when he could.

Go Clearwater!
