Get your tickets early for Berkeley's Arts Showcase
Highlighting the delight of the performing arts is the purpose of the Berkeley Institute's Arts Showcase, " 'Twas the Night before ...' being held on December 10 and 11 at the school's 'cafetorium.'
This year the expanded programme will be held over two nights, with the December 10 programme featuring music, chorale works, and the school's concert band, while December 11 will highlight dance and theatre.
The visual arts are celebrated too, in the stage sets, and poster, ticket and programme designs. Students from across the year levels and ranging in ability will come together to create two very enjoyable but very different programmes.
Students are involved at all levels, as some will be working backstage as sound and lighting technicians.
The students have worked with Arts teachers from September to December as part of the Bermuda Secondary Certificate (BSC), and for some this is their first involvement in the performing arts.
Berkeley Institute teacher Christine Wellman noted, "It is refreshing to see the dedication, self discipline and personal growth these young people exhibit from zero to the final performance.
Generally, without the Showcases these students would have little or no opportunity to share what they've worked on for the past four months. It's commendable."
In the past, last-minute theatregoers have been disappointed as the performances were sold out, and tickets are not sold at the door, so the public is being encouraged to buy tickets early.
The tickets, $10 for adults and $7 for children, are available at the school office between 9 a.m. and 3.30 p.m. For further information call the school office 292-4752.
