Saltus promises the Earth
Another day at Saltus – but this was not a normal day. Aside from the everyday pleasures at Saltus, it was Earth Day. There was lots of excitement. Students wondered what they would cook up this time.
The morning was amazing. Students came in about a million different shades of green. It was a grub day – everybody donated $2 (or more) towards Green Rock.
There were green logos, hats, shoes, and even green watches. From an aerial view they probably looked like a field of swaying grass.
Once the students had unpacked bags and turned in homework diaries as usual, the prefects took the classes into the assembly hall. There we heard a wonderful performance by the recorder club. Then, we all sang two songs based on Earth Day, which were beautiful. After the announcements, we all dispersed and went in year groups to a designated area to plant a cedar tree to help the environment.
Back in class we all wrote Earth Day pledges to hang on the wall. Some of the pledges were to use less water in the shower, not leave the fridge door open, turn off our lights when we leave the room, turn off the tap while brushing our teeth.
It was a great way to start Earth Day!
