Saltus Year Six Lusher wins a recycling prize

Young collector: Frankie Maiden was one of the young people promoting recycling in her school and neighbourhood in November.

During the week of 17 November 2008, my school, Saltus Upper Primary, took part in a competition to promote recycling.

The winning school's prize is $1,000. Each school that participated will receive a cedar tree.

Altogether, Saltus collected 8,377 cans. That's a lot of soda drinking!

The class that got the most cans was Year 6 Lusher and they collected 2,789 cans.

They win a Grub Day (a day where you get to wear anything you want), a pizza party and a tour around the new recycling plant. The Department of Works and Engineering (W&E) organised this event to encourage children to recycle and keep our Earth GREEN!

Many people found their cans in the bushes, which proves that Bermuda needs to do a lot of cleaning up.
