Up close with Saltus' Head Boy and Girl
Nicholas Rinehimer, Head Boy, and Ellisse Johnston, Head Girl, are dedicated SGY students working together to give back to the Saltus Grammar School community.
Both students applied for the duty of Head Boy and Girl through a series of events, beginning with a letter of recommendation, followed by preparing a CV, an interview with the Head Master, Nigel Kermode, and each teacher's individual input. Since both candidates had impressive CVs and impressions on the teachers it was only fair for them to land their positions.
After being at Saltus for 13 years, for Ellisse, and eight years for Nicholas, the two knew how they wanted to improve the school, "Nicholas and I gave a newspaper to the school. We got things running smoothly and now it's a great creative output for other students," stated Ellisse.
"We have also been involved with Dollars for Hours," Nicholas added. "We do a lot of work at the Sunshine League, and Saltus is able to benefit from our work as the school receives money each year as a result of our efforts." As both individuals enjoy supporting their local charities, Ellisse even added, "One of my role models is definitely Angelina Jolie, for her humanitarian efforts."
At school Ellisse and Nicholas are continually involved in activities together, from running the Student Council, to meeting with the Head Master and the everyday duties of controlling their prefects. "When we take charge, it's a really good way to see things get done within the Saltus community and to watch the younger students emulate our contributions," explained Nicholas.
Both Ellisse and Nicholas are also involved in outside, school activities, with the most popular being National Debate. "We try to take the experiences that we learn at practices and when travelling around the world, to use them in our day-to-day life at Saltus," explained Nicholas and Ellisse. Since both students have spent numbers of hours together, they had no problem describing each other's work ethics. "Ellisse is consistently perfect through her dedication and contributions to the school."
"Nicholas is incredibly organised and actually pretty perfect himself."
"Even though we are both hard workers, we like to get things done, with good time so we can also have a social life," added Nicholas.
Outside of school Nicholas loves to write and film his own movies and scripts, while Ellisse enjoys journalism and extended reading, relating to her studies. The two students are role models throughout their school community, as well as being actively involved in the Bermudian society.
