Whitney Institute shines in the 'Garden Olympics', too
This year at the Annual Exhibition, Whitney Institute had a number of participants entering food exhibits, plants and vegetables. Whitney competed against all schools in the Island and finished second in the Middle School category.
I interviewed some of the teachers who helped the kids enter their exhibits, and they said: "It was a pleasure to help the kids decide what they were going to enter. I enjoyed seeing them take care of what they entered to make sure it was the best in the show. They all did a wonderful job and I congratulate them all on a job well done."
Taking first place, and "Best in Show" for his male billy goat, Andre Lambe said: "It is not easy trying to make a billy goat look good enough to win first prize."
We also had first place ribbons in the food exhibits. Rachel Smith and Elizabeth Blankendal both took first prize with their cupcakes with icing, and a special occasion cake, respectively.
Everyone was challenged when competing against the Douglas twins in M1. Seta and Ani Douglas together brought home seven first places, seven second places and three third place ribbons. Seta won two out of the seven firsts for potted plant and aloe, and Ani won five first place ribbons for a container garden, Endemic cedar, Herb: lemon balm and basil.
Ani also won two second place ribbons for potted plants and her sister Seta received five second place ribbons for endemic, cedar, Herb: basil, lemon balm, container garden and christophine.
Finally, Ani took three third place ribbons for potted plants.
Whitney had 16 participants who together brought back to the school 12 first places, ten second places and five third place ribbons. I congratulate my friends and classmates on a job well done and encourage them to keep up the good work. Who are we? WHITNEY!!
