Why cleaning up forts is important

Bermuda has a great way to attract tourists: its forts. We have some well-restored forts on the island, like Fort St. Catherine, the Martello Tower and Dockyard. But many of our forts are messy and uncared for.

If we clean up our forts, the tourists will be surprised at this wonderful part of our shared history. Then more and more tourists will come to Bermuda. The Government will have more money to help the country.

It is important to clean up our forts because if we don't, tourists won't come to visit them. Right now, many forts look like a dumping ground, full of bottles, bags and plastic. Tourists might go back to their country and tell how awful Bermuda's forts are if they continue to be so full of litter. There will be fewer tourists, and less money for Bermuda.

Also, if we organise forts better, people will pay more to see them. They might be so impressed that they'll tell everyone at home about our forts. This would make Bermuda some more money from tourism.

Bermuda residents can help to keep the forts clean, by visiting the forts now and again, and putting their garbage in the trashcan.

No one should litter around any forts!
