Eager to hit the slopes (and Wal-Mart) in Winter Park, Colorado

Many of the students in Primary Six at Warwick Academy are getting very excited. Over the Easter break, from March 26 to April 3, many students will be going to Winter Park, Colorado for a ski trip. The trip will start with a night in a Denver hotel then an excursion to Wal-Mart. They will then be going to their lodgings at Beaver Lodge on the ski resort grounds. There will be an opportunity to see snow for the first time for some of the students, which is very thrilling for them. The next day they will meet their instructors and they will be split into skiing ability groups This trip happens every year and Katie Mathias, my sister, has passed down some rather funny stories. One incident occurred with a student on a ski lift for a first time getting off early, falling in to the snow and then sticking one ski into the air and saying to his mates, “I’m alright”.The students are getting busy trying to organise their rooms and working out who is sharing rooms two months early. The prospect of being together with their friends for a whole week is an attractive part of the expedition. The teachers chaperoning the trip will be from the Primary or Secondary department which will be good because the students can familiarise themselves with their future teachers but still have some well-known adults around. The Warwick Academy teachers will hand the teaching of skiing over to the experts from the resort but they will have lots planned for the children in the evenings. There will be some very experienced skiers on the trip such as Johnny Page, who has skied all his life. There will be other students who have never been on the ski slopes in their lives. Said Joshua Vallis: “I’ve never skied before. I think I’ll enjoy it.”But that doesn’t matter. They say they all are really looking forward to this fantastic learning experience which will bring its ups and downs but still be fun for everyone!
