Cold head, warm heart

A close shave: Toby Gibbons was a little worried when Mum Tracey Gibbons wielded the shaver for the first time on March 18 as part of the St. Baldrick's fundraiser at BAA gym. He emerged a little colder, but otherwise unscathed, and pleased with the $5,000 he raised for cancer research.

Toby Gibbons, who has been reflecting on his St Baldrick’s fundraising participation, is now bald and has raised over $5,000 for cancer research.I was really excited when I got my head shaved because I hadn’t done it for a year and I had forgotten what it felt like.I was a bit nervous and a bit shy at first when I got up there in front of everybody. My mum shaved me. I was worried because she’d never shaved anyone before, but I think she did a good job. And I liked it when the crowd cheered for me at the end!It felt weird having no hair again and afterwards I kept feeling it. Everyone wants to rub it to see what it feels like! Two other friends from my school, Yassine Chentouf and Daniel Beverley, also got their heads shaved all our heads felt really cold!So far I have raised $5,325, and there’s still a bit more to come from my mum’s work, Allied World. If any people give money to charity, the company will give the same amount, which is really cool. My goal was $4,000 so I was really pleased to get that much. There were a lot of other people getting their heads shaved and I was glad I was one of them. I really hope our money will help kids with cancer get better.
