Rugby champs make us proud
On Thursday, March 10, 2011 the Sandys Secondary Middle School Over-13 Boys (in the red shirts) were once again victorious in the second and final rugby tournament of their season. The A Team went through the day’s play without losing any of their four games. The B Team and the C Team (boys under 13) were not as successful. The A Team won every game except the one against the mixed team of Somersfield Academy and Whitney Middle School. That game ended in a draw. However, Sandys played the same team in the finals. After being down 1-0 at the end of the first half, the Panthers roared back to make the score 1-1. At the end of regulation time, the two teams went to sudden death: the first team to score a try would win.Three minutes into extra time, our team captain, Denar Johnson, was able to get a pass to speedster, Chakote Wainwright. He took off like a flash and, although pursued by his opponents, was able to run the ball a considerable length of the field and score the winning try. Sandys is now home to the tournament’s Cup and the team’s coach, Mr Christopher Naylor, is very proud of all three of his teams.
