The theme of the 2011 BNG Student Art competition is global issues and on Bermuda

The buzz is on for the upcoming 2011 Student Art competition. The 2011 BNG Bermuda National Gallery Student Art Competition, sponsored by BTC and BELCO, will be challenging children ages six to 17 to let their art skills shine.The theme for this year’s BNG Student Art Competition will be Global Perspective and will be inspired by the current exhibitions: William Collieson A Retrospective and On Screen: Global Intimacy, a film exhibit.The rules for this competition will be to create a unique piece of art- work that will depict and explore the question:How are global issues impacting Bermuda? What will be further creative also about this contest is that students will also get to describe their art in one paragraph, stating how their picture depicts the global issues in Bermuda.Gallery education director Dany Pen, noted, “The Bermuda National Gallery’s education mandate is to bring the art experience to every child in Bermuda.“The student art competition this year aims to provoke awareness in global issues by using art as the vocal outlet.”“Children are encouraged to express their ideas and concerns,” she continued, “through the creative process of finding objects and to then create a piece that explores the concept, ‘how are global issues impacting Bermuda?’ ”On the front of the artwork should be the student’s name, age, grade, school, teacher, and a paragraph of explanation.All artwork must be able to be wall mounted and prepared for presentation for example mounted on a board. The maximum size for the artwork should be 12 x 18 inches.The deadline for entering your artwork will be Wednesday, November 30, 2011 at 4pm, and all work should be delivered to the BNG, City Hall.From December 5- 23 2011 artwork will be displayed at the City Hall and Arts Centre, Church Street Hamilton, and admission is free.Opening times will be 10am 4pm from Monday Friday and 10am 2pm on Saturday.
