Boys’ Brigade do good with car washes
Bermuda Boys’ Brigade, working together with Church Girls’ Brigade, held their annual Christmas car wash in St Paul’s Church car park in Paget. With the funds raised the group donates half to similar charities that assist the youth. They donated Belco gift certificates to four needy families through The Family Centre.Their next car wash will be at their annual Valentine’s Fair. This event is also hosted at St Paul’s Church car park in Paget, and takes place on Saturday, February 16, from 9 to 4pm.The purpose of the Boys’ Brigade is to help boys in becoming young men anchored in the Christian Faith. The 1st Bermuda Company is an outreach arm of St Paul’s Church in Paget. The Boys’ Brigade was started in Bermuda by Cecil Downs, with the encouragement of Canon Peter Evans at St Paul’s Church. Mr Downs was the captain until 1986 when there were six Companies in Bermuda. Today, there is only one Company with over 40 members presently, led by David Semos at St Paul’s Church under the Priest-in-Charge, the Revd Anthony D. Pettit. The Boys’ Brigade meet on Fridays in the Christian Education Centre.The Bermuda Boys’ Brigade is an organisation for boys aged five to 16 years of age and are divided into four groups. On Friday nights, Anchors and Juniors meet — 6:30pm to 8pm, Company Section — 8pm to 9.30pm and seniors — 8pm to 10pm at the St. Paul’s Church hall. The boys engage in badge work activities under the headings of Adventure, Physical, Interest, Leadership and Community. The Junior programme is called “Go for the GOLD”.
