Inspiring and motivating morning

On November 14th the Student Government Association at CedarBridge Academy held their Induction Ceremony in the Ruth Seaton James Auditorium.

It was an extremely inspiring and motivating morning as we celebrated the new inductees for the 2013-2014 school year. To be inducted you are not only required to have excellent leadership skills, but you are also required to have good academics.

The ceremony began with a welcome by the President, Kjeld-Mizpah Conyers-Steede, who spoke on reaching new heights and fostering better relations with the student body and teachers. His speech was not only reassuring of why he is president, but moreover it convinced us that he has promising visions for the organisation. As Principal Richards would say, he is truly “Big Time!”

Deputy Rosemary Matthews then encouraged students by discussing how academics are essential to a student’s portfolio but a student also requires extra-curricular and community service hours because we need to be well rounded.

The most inspiring part of the ceremony was the distribution of badges. We were each called upon by Mrs. Maxine Webb, an SGA advisor to receive our new badges from Mrs. Khandice Darrell and Ms. Anya Thompson who are also advisers of SGA. After we received our badges we recited a pledge that decreed our commitment and leadership responsibilities.

The ceremony concluded with Guest Speaker, DeAzha Chambers, and President of CBA SGA in 2012. She delivered an amazing speech on leadership and experiences in SGA while she was president. It was truly encouraging. One of her favourite quotes which she lives by is, “Work hard, study hard, and then play hard.”

Closing remarks were given by Mrs. Khandice Darrell.
