A homeless man has been charged with stealing more than $3,000 of cash and alcohol from a Front Street business.

Robert Hewey, 62, denied entering as a trespasser and stealing money and liquor worth $3,550 on January 29.

Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner remanded Mr Hewey into custody until June, when he will be tried.
