A 46-year-old man has denied breaching a domestic violence order.

The accused, from Hamilton Parish, pleaded not guilty to indirectly harassing his estranged wife by e-mail and damaging her reputation.

He appeared in Magistrates’ Court this week before Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner.

Prosecutor Carrington Mahoney said a protection order had been served on the defendant on August 22 banning him from contact with his spouse.

The year-long order banned him from using physical or psychological violence, making threats, harassing her, and contacting her through writing or other mediums, such as text messages and e-mail. It also covered causing damage to her reputation.

Mr Mahoney said the accused sent e-mails on August 24 damaging his ex-wife’s reputation to three charitable organisations which had supported his former partner in obtaining the order — Pride, the Centre Against Abuse and SCARS.

Mr Warner set bail at $2,000 and set a trial date of November 27.
