Sailor rescued from Little Sound

It was a busy Saturday afternoon for the duty officers at the Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre.

They dealt with three emergency calls in a few hours — although only one of the incidents required action.

Just after 8pm, Bermuda Radio received a 911 call from a stricken sailor in the Little Sound whose boat had broken down. The Regiment, who were conducting marine exercises in the area, came to the boat’s aid and towed it ashore.

Earlier in the day, at 4.25pm, a member of the public called 911 after spotting a jet ski drifting in the area of Murray’s Anchorage.

A local vessel responded to Bermuda Radio’s urgent broadcasts for help and found that the two people on the jet ski were simply drift fishing.

Finally, just after 7pm, a member of the public contacted Bermuda Radio out of concern for a kayaker who was spotted in the water off the South Shore near the south west Breaker.

It turned out to be a false alarm and no further action was required.
