Marion win a family affair

Family Affair: the all family crew of the 36ft sloop, ‘TI’

The family that sails together, wins together.

This has certainly proven to be the case for the 36ft sloop, TI, that captured overall honours in the 20th Marion to Bermuda Race with a family crew.

The Alden Mistral 36, skippered by Greg Marston, captured the coveted Founder’s Trophy with a corrected time of 86 hrs, 35 mins and 56 secs.

“This is wonderful,” Marston said. “I am very elated and very grateful for the crew that supported me from day one — which was back in 1993.”

Marston made the 645-mile journey from Buzzard’s Bay, Marion to St David’s, Bermuda accompanied on deck by relatives Andrew Howe and Chase Marston, who both served as navigators, Peter Stoops, the watch captain, and crew John Omeara and Jake Marston.

Marston’s sloop, that sailed under celestial navigation, also won Class D honours for added measure.

Taking line honours on Monday was Class A entry Mischievous.

Charles Cahill’s Meriton 65 placed fifth in its class and 21st overall with a corrected time of 77hrs, 12mins and 11secs.

Spirit of Bermuda, the sole entry in the Classic Yacht Division, was third in line honours.
