Johnson favourite in Rubis event

In it to win it: Maycock will be among the title contenders in the A category at the Devonshire courts

The Rubis Divisional Tournament will be held at the Bermuda Squash Racquets Association’s courts in Devonshire from today until Friday.

More than 85 players will compete in five divisions during the four days of competition. A junior boys and girls draw will also be featured at the event.

“The Rubis tournament is one of our most popular events of the season, as it really caters to players of all levels, from the advanced player right through to the beginner,” Runa Reta, the BSRA assistant director, said.

“We are very grateful for the support that Rubis gives us to run this event each year, as it not only helps to keep our sport thriving in the community.

“But it also helps to motivate and inspire our young players to get more involved in the competitive side of squash.”

The junior boys and girls draws will include national team players Dylan Pratt, Charlie Riker, Taylor Carrick, Charlotte Toogood and Abigail Brewer.

Prizes include a one-year membership for the winners of both the boys and girls categories, courtesy of Rubis.

In the A category, Kristian Muldoon, Jason Shrubb and Robbie Maycock will be looking to overthrow the top seed Kristen Johnson. Maycock represented Bermuda at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Matches start at 6pm, with the finals of each division taking place on Friday at 6.30pm.
