Rawlins out cheaply for Sussex
Delray Rawlins was out for ten as Sussex ended day two of their Specsavers County Championship Division Two match against Gloucestershire in Bristol on 313 for seven, a lead of 113.
Rawlins, in at No 5, was at the crease for 30 minutes when he attempted to hook a short delivery from David Payne and was caught behind by the wicketkeeper Gareth Roderick.
He faced 24 balls, with Sussex still trailing by 23 runs at his dismissal on 177 for four.
Opener Phil Salt top scored with 64 and Luke Wells made 42 as Sussex established a useful lead on the second day.
The pair shared in a century opening stand, before David Payne led the Gloucestershire fightback with three for 58.
A total of 23 overs were lost to bad light despite the county Ground floodlights being turned on throughout the day.
Starting the day on 73 without loss, Sussex carried that good start into the second day with Wells and Salt scoring at a good rate on a low and slow pitch.
Their opening stand of 100 ended in the 25th over when Payne, their most effective bowler, got the breakthrough when he slanted a teasing delivery across Salt, who edged to second slip and was well held by James Bracey.
After that Wells became more aggressive, taking charge of a second-wicket stand of 51 with Tom Haines before left-arm slow bowler Tom Smith came into the attack just before lunch and removed Haines who edged a catch to second slip, departing for 22.
Sussex went from 151 for one to 177 for four when Rawlins departed in an afternoon session in which nine overs were lost to bad light.
Middle-order batsman David Wiese finished on 40 not out and Will Beer 28 not out in an unbroken stand of 46 for the eighth wicket.
