Girl, 16, hit by truck on crossing

A 16-year-old girl was seriously injured after being struck by a Department of Works and Engineering truck as she crossed Middle Road in Southampton.

Last night, a police spokesman said the girl, who had been using the pedestrian crossing near the junction with Whale Bay Road, had remained “conscious and alert” after being hit at 6.50am.

She was being treated in hospital for injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening.
