The Commissioner of Police said today officers will help to celebrate the achievements of labour leaders on Monday.

Stephen Corbishley added that officers will attend the Labour Day events on Monday as “partners” as well as in their public safety role.

He said: “Past Labour Day events at Union Square have seen crowds in the region of 2,000 or more be in attendance and we anticipate that a similar crowd will be present at this year’s event.

“Having lived in Bermuda for over a year now I have sought to educate myself to the significance of Labour Day for the country.

“I recognise the commitment and sacrifices made by many Bermudians and politicians to address disparity and inequality in the workplace and to deliver fair democratic process.

“The BPS will be present to ensure the safety and enjoyment of all attending, but also we will be there as community partners to celebrate the significant achievements of those who have brought about change in Bermuda.”
