Local players develop skills overseas

Bermuda's No 1 Gavin Manders

A host of Bermudian players took the opportunity to develop their skills on and off the court at an international event.

Gavin Manders, Sam Maybury, Romar Douglas, and Naim Azhar travelled to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, to visit the Professional Tennis Registry International Coaching Symposium before competing in PTR Championships.

As well as attending the Symposium, Manders and Azhar competed in the PTR Championships, which was a Universal Tennis Rating tournament.

Manders managed to reach the quarter-finals of the open singles division, losing to Michael-Ray Pollares-Gonzalez from Dominican Republic, Azhar claimed the scalp of third seed Luke Whiteside in the quarters before going out in the semis. In the open doubles division, the pair fell short of a place in the final, losing to Michael-Ray Pollares-Gonzalez and Garret Leal. There was greater joy for Azhar in the open mixed doubles, where he and partner Niri Rasolomalala took the overall honours.
