Students from Prospect Primary School were all smiles yesterday morning as they got to play dentist and dental patient at Kerin Oral Care in Paget.

The practice holds a fun educational programme — Give Kids a Smile Day — each year that aims to teach children everything from oral hygiene to good nutrition.

They were also taught how to brush, rinse and floss their teeth properly to help avoid tooth decay.

After inspecting each other’s mouths using dentists’ tools, they filled in a form to say whether they needed further treatment.

The students dressed up as dentists and inspected their classmates’ mouths and were even allowed to control the professional equipment including the adjustable dental chairs. At the end of the sessions the children were given goodie bags, including gifts such as a pencil, floss, toothpaste, a toothbrush and a disclosing tablet that shows any plaque left over after brushing. Kerin Oral Care hopes that other primary schools will apply to take part in future Give Kids a Smile Days.
