US junior joins motocross action
action at Coney Island on Sunday, will face increased competition over the next two race days with the arrival of a promising US rider.
Fourteen-year-old Brandon Ray Bartz of Illinois, who rides a Yahama 80, will be arriving in Bermuda on Friday and will compete during the nationals this weekend and the Brian Castle Memorial event the following Sunday.
Hassell's main challenge last Sunday came from Howard Paynter who put together a third and two seconds while Craig Panchaud was third for the day with a second and two thirds.
In the 125C class, Kemo Simons was denied a hat-trick of wins by Kyle Constable who won the third moto after Simons had taken the first two. Simons finished top with Stephan Lightbourn runner-up and Constable third.
Robbie Smith continued to have things his own way in the 125B class where he won all three motos while Justin Belboda was second and Chris Maxwell third.
Duprey Joell was the lone rider in the 250 class while in the smaller classes, Maurice Symons, Lawrenzo Trott and Chris DeSilva were the respective winners.
Symons won the Pee Wee 50s with three firsts while Jakai Brimmer was second and Brandon DeSilva third. In the Pee Wee 80s, Trott won all three races to resist the challenge of Aaron Cannonier who had three seconds.
Chris DeSilva raced to two firsts and a second to take the 60cc class with Steven Panchaud finishing second with two seconds and a first.
