A pair of Bermudian greenkeepers are heading to San Martin, California, tomorrow to help with preparations for the 2016 US Women’s Open.

Sean Adams and Jonathan Minors, of Rosewood Tucker’s Point, will be plying their trade at Rosewood CordeValle for the tournament, which is scheduled to begin next Thursday.

Mr Adams, the assistant superintendent at the Tucker’s Point Golf Course, said the opportunity came about because of the Rosewood connection between the two properties.

“We wanted some representation because of the Rosewood connection, and they wanted us to represent Bermuda for this tournament,” he said. “The US Open is the biggest US tournament each year in the LPGA, so it’s a pretty big deal.

“We are going to be mowing fairways, mowing greens, doing whatever needs to be done and likely working long hours to make sure the golf course is in tiptop shape. It’s a unique opportunity.”

Mr Adams has worked on courses internationally, but never at a tournament of this magnitude.

“It’s going to be interesting to see what a high-level tournament looks like and the attention to detail that is expected,” he said.

“Everything needs to be perfect for a tournament like this, but it’s interesting that Bermudians will be working 3,000 miles away at one of the biggest tournaments going on this year.

“I love it. The energy and the buzz that happens around tournaments like these is like no other.”
