On such decisions are titles won or lost
This is where strategy kicks in for the Fantasy manager. There will be many of you, like me, who have, to coin a phrase, done a Fernando and got sloppier than an Art Mel’s fish sandwich.
Crystal Palace and Everton have a double game this Fantasy week, ahead of next round when there’s a host of other double-gamers.
So, having got too excited earlier in the season and used up wildcards, the test this week is working out how to shoehorn Romelu Lukaku into my team without destroying the unique chemistry that has got my boys up to the giddy heights of ... erm .. eighteenth.
Or do I bring in England’s finest Ross Barkley, who may have assisted with the half-time oranges but sure as hell hasn’t assisted much else recently.
Then there’s Palace, although pinning all my hopes on Scott Dann is like ordering food at a music festival — you never know what you’re going to get.
You feel my predicament. Do I take a hit this week and focus on the next swollen round of fixtures? Or do I gamble on Lukaku and Dann?
Such moments are when The Royal Gazette Fantasy Football kings are made.
Tomorrow’s games
West Ham United v Arsenal
8.45am
West Ham are undefeated in their past 13 home matches and this is a real test for Arsenal if they are to get a run together to put pressure on the top two.
Dimitri Payet’s incredible dipping free-kick last weekend should set alarm bells ringing among the visitor’s back line.
Prediction: 2-2
Villa have lost their past seven matches and are doomed to the Sky Bet Championship.
For Bournemouth, this is the perfect opportunity to get the 4-0 drubbing at the hands of Manchester City out of their system, which they should do comfortably.
Prediction: 1-2
Palace continue to look very nervously over their shoulder and are without a win in 14 league games.
This is huge because a defeat to Norwich would without doubt drag them into the relegation scrap.
Alex Neil’s side will have a swagger after their late win over Newcastle. Could they be getting results together at the right time?
Prediction: 2-3
Rafa Benítez will have necked a little more Rioja than was good for him after the defeat at Carrow Road. A big task to save Newcastle has just got bigger.
Another must-win then, but Ronald Koeman’s side are far superior and have not lost at home to their opponents in 12 years. That run looks set to continue.
Prediction: 2-1
Chelsea are on a 15-match unbeaten run in the league but, despite this, are drifting towards the end of the season and the arrival of new manager Antonio Conte.
They should have too much for Swansea, but the Welsh side are looking compact again as they ease away from the drop. Has the potential to be a bore draw.
Prediction: 1-1
Bit of a crisis brewing at Everton as Roberto Martinez struggles to turn his pretty passing style into any sort of decent results.
It’s three straight defeats for the Merseysiders but they can take some comfort from the fact Watford has lost their past four. The FA Cup is saving Martinez at the moment.
Prediction: 1-2
1.30pm
Manchester City have recovered from a disappointing run of form to secure a 4-0 thumping of Bournemouth and a good draw with Paris Saint-Germain. They’ve also won their past eight games against West Brom. Hard to see past anything else this time.
Prediction: 3-0
Sunderland v Leicester City
9.30am
Could be a tense, tight encounter in the North East. Sunderland are a tougher team to beat under Sam Allardyce but they are in dire need of victories to escape relegation.
Leicester are seven points clear and will see this as a match they can win to edge themselves closer to securing a truly incredible title.
Prediction: 1-2
Noon
The battle for sixth place intensifies! Stoke have quietly — although perhaps not in Stoke — moved into eighth but Liverpool have two games in hand.
Home advantage may tip the favour in Jürgen Klopp’s side but Stoke have enough players to cause damage.
Prediction: 2-1
Noon
Another crunch match for Tottenham if they are to keep pace with Leicester. United are unpredictable, but there is nothing to suggest Harry Kane and Co can’t turn them over and pile the pressure on Leicester.
Providing, of course, that the moment does not become too big for them. A lot will depend on the day’s earlier game.
Prediction: 2-0
